NBC renews five dramas

NBC on Friday renewed five dramas for new seasons. Parenthood, Law & Order: SVU and Grimm will be back, along with freshman series Chicago Fire and Revolution. All of the pickups were expected, but they come little more than two weeks before the ratings-challenged network unveils its fall schedule, and mark the first to be officially renewed. "On the verge of our 2013 fall scheduling decisions, we're pleased to renew five drama series that will be important to our new season line-up," said NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke, in a statement. "We're proud and very appreciative of all of the actors, producers, writers and directors who work so hard to deliver such high-quality work week in and week out. These complex shows represent a broad range of genres and tones, and all of them stand out for us in a television landscape now filled with one-hour series." On the comedy front, Parks and Recreation is expected to get another season, but NBC is mulling plans for other shows including Community, Whitney, and newcomers The New Normal and Go On.
